US to host Iran animation

Short animated piece ‘Run Rostam Run’ is slated to be screened at the Flickers' Rhode Island Int’l Film Festival.

The qualifying event for the Academy Awards, RIIFF, will host the animation‌ directed by Hossein Molayemi.

'Run Rostam Run' is about an old Persian national hero who should travel to the future and come to Tehran 2017 in order to make up for what he has done to his own son. In Tehran, he doesn't know whether to choose the legal or illegal way to reach his legitimate goal.

The 11-minute animation is a free comic adaptation of the traditional Persian tragic story of Rostam and Sohrab in Ferdowsi's masterpiece 'Shahnameh'.

The animated film was first screened at the Tehran International Animation Festival where it won the best animation and the best director awards.

Started in 1997, Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) takes place every year in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island.

RIIFF has been a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards since 2002.

The event is scheduled to take place on August 7-12, 2018.
